Julie Yatjitja

Julie YatjitjaCommunity: Indulkana
Art Centre: Iwantja Arts (Indulkana S.A.)
Area: APY Lands, South Australia
Born: 1969
Biography:

Julie's mother's country is Granite Downs (Indulkana area) while her father's country is to the west at Mimili. Julie says, "I grew up and went to primary school in Indulkana and high school (boarding school) at Inglefarm in Adelaide. I worked at the Old Store when I came back home, for sales of food and packing shelves. I married in Indulkana and I have three tjiitjis (children) - all girls. I look forward to the future and making more art. I like using bright colours on canvas. You can see those colours on the land. Lots of flowers grow around here. And the land has many different colours. I learnt how to do lino cuts a while ago. My prints are about maku (witchetty grub) and tjala (honey ant) which are delicious bush tucker that come after rain. I have made designs for jewellery too. I also learnt pottery, making bowls with painted designs. I like to draw and paint bush tucker (mai) designs on everything I do".

Julie successfully exhibited at the 2006 Desert Mob Exhibition in Alice Springs.
