Andy Tjilari is from Fregon on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara/ Yankunytjatjara Lands, 350km south east of Uluru. He was born in 1934 in Nyultu, which is on the other side of Kalka, a small community not far from Pipalyatjara. Andy grew up in Pipalyatjara and went to school and Ernabella mission and Hermannsburg mission in the Northern Territory. Andy is a traditional Ngankari (Healer) and senior elder from Fregon community. He has a wealth of traditional knowledge, from Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories to more recent Anangu history and the landscape. Andy has travelled the world with his Ngankari work, all across Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii and America. He works for Nganampa Health Council and occasionally paints at Kaltjiti Arts in Fregon.
